Genghis Art Studio
Welcome to my website. It is a photo gallery of my artwork.
As I embark on this new vocation, I’ll be posting new work as I complete them. I hope my art appeals to you in some way, stimulates an emotional response no matter how slight, and shares with you something unique and/or beautiful in our world.
Boris Pasternak said, “Art always serves beauty. Beauty is the happiness of having form, while form is the organic key to existence, for every living thing must have form in order to exist. Art, including tragic art, is an account of the happiness of existing.” I like to think of it also as an accounting of what is true in existing.
I enjoy applying principles of design I have studied. The style is representational, not photo realism, but occasionally abstract. I use mostly acrylic paint on canvas. The subject matter is primarily the human form, but sometimes landscape, animals or a combination. Favorite photographs are occasionally included.
Favorite artists are Thomas Eakins, Winslow Homer, Edward Hopper, Edgar Payne and Maynard Dixon.
I am retired after 33 years from Palo Alto Medical Foundation, Camino Division, as a family physician. I lived on Manor Dr. in Saratoga from 1989-2005, and downsized to a condo on Rainbow Dr. in San Jose after my son graduated from Monta Vista HS.
Having Chinese “tiger” parents, I was encouraged to pursue a “real” profession and not spend four years tuition on a fine arts degree, so I had to wait until I no longer had to make a living in 2014 to pursue my passion for art..
While in my medical practice, I took watercolor workshops with Tony Couch, Dong Kingman, and Dale Laitinen.
After retirement, I studied drawing with Ken Young in Mountain View; drawing and portraiture with Ray Mendieta, and plein art painting with Halcyon Teed, both at Pacific Art League, where I developed a love of acrylic painting.
I am especially interested in public art.
